Inception
Finally. A movie with something I've never experienced before: positive feelings toward Ellen Page.
No but seriously, after all the hype, all the money, all the celebrities, I was pleasantly surprised with how good this movie actually was. Sure the special effects were insane, but so was the plot, which isn't always a given.
Being the die-hard Leo fan that I am, I, of course, loved his performance. My only complaint was that this film came out in the same year as Shutter Island. Leo's character was just too similar. Both Cobb (from Inception) and Teddy Daniels (from Shutter) were haunted by their wives and the horrible things they had done. This grief-stricken act is getting a bit old. Where is the carefree, lover I came to obsess over when I was 7 and Titanic came out? Spice it up some L.D.
Other than that, I thought the movie was pretty amazing. I mean it's kinda hard to screw it up when you're Chris Nolan and you're working with an endless budget. It is, however, easy to not live up to the hype. I mean you have a trailer where entire cities are moving with a plot that is not discernible from the little information shown. It could have been a special effects show with a Seven Pounds storyline, but it wasn't. All of the effects matched the plot perfectly.
The film did take a while to get into. For the first 30 plus minutes I thought it was all smoke and mirrors, but as the pieces started coming together, I realized that this was going to be "one of THOSE films." You know, the one that everyone runs home after seeing it to change their Facebook status to something about how amazing it was. And it deserves it.
As I hinted before, after hating Juno and thinking that Whip It would have been better with someone else, Ellen Page was the best surprise of the film for me. I really liked her and thought she played the role well. I could have done with a little more Michael Caine, but couldn't everyone? After seeing Marion Cotillard in roles where I mostly sympathized with her, it was hard to see her so cutthroat and evil, even if it was "all a dream," but she played it well.
While there has been some controversy with the ending, and I won't spoil it, I will say that I was in favor of the ending chosen. I was lucky enough to watch the film on the largest screen in Britain, the BFI IMAX, and it made all the difference. So for the two people left on this planet who still haven't seen Inception, head out to an IMAX, because this is definitely one to see on the BIG screen.
QUICKIES
"Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange." — Leonardo DiCaprio (Cobb)
"You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger darling."- Tom Hardy (Eames)
Fun Facts:
Early on, James Franco was in talks with Christopher Nolan for a role. However, due to scheduling conflicts, he was unavailable to join the cast. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was ultimately cast in the role offered to Franco (thank goodness! Levitt was incredible, and a babe).
Evan Rachel Wood was Christopher Nolan's first choice to play Ariadne, but she turned it down. Nolan considered casting Emily Blunt, Rachel McAdams and Emma Roberts, but chose Ellen Page instead.
This is Christopher Nolan's first original work since his debut, Following (1998). All of his films since them were remakes or based off comics, novels or short stories.
Duh, Leo was the ONLY choice for the role of Cobb.
Inception took 8 years to write.

Charlie St. Cloud
Zac Efron's latest endevour is this film about a boy who dies and his old brother [Efron] who is overwhelmed with grief. He starts working in the cemetery where his brother is buried and can see and talk to him....like the Sixth Sense only endearing. Conflict arises when he meets a girl and has to choose between her and his dead brother....I see a story of growth here. Oh well...it's Zac Efron. It's scheduled to come out July 30 in the U.S.A.

Mark Ruffalo....Hulk?
According to recent rumors, Mark Ruffalo is in talks with Marvel Studios to play the next Hulk in Joss Whedon's 'The Avengers.' I say if scrawny Ed Norton can do it, anyone can.
Inception - Official Trailer 3 [HD]
In preparation for seeing it in IMAX on Tuesday, here's the trailer....so amped!!!!

Four Lions
Literally one of the funniest movies I've seen in the past few months. I would recommend it to almost anyone. Though its topic, Islamic jiihads, doesn't seem humorous, the way the film is presented is genius. This satire perfectly attacks the ridiculous nature of suicide bombers and racist society in general.
It just seems so wrong to be laughing while people are being blown up, but when those people are tripping over sheep while carrying explosives, you'll come to understand that there's a level of forgiveness in the theater. The great thing about this humor is that it's not based on farts or sex, but its core lies in the foundations of a current problem. It's definitely one I could watch over and over again.
When Scenes:
WHEN Fessel buys all of his liquid peroxide at the same store and tries to validate it by having used different voices...the voices are all the same.
WHEN in the same scene Fessel claims he disguised himself as a woman by covering up his beard with his hand.
WHEN Hassan freaks out in the lecture on Islam and pretends to blow himself up. When confetti pops out he yells at the people that they just thought he would blow up because he's Muslim.
WHEN Barry isn't invited to Pakistan and they frog tie him in the trunk.
WHEN Omar shoots the rocket launcher backwards and accidently blows up the training camp instead of the American spy plane.
WHEN the "four lions" dress up in costumes to run in the London Marathon.
QUICKIES
"I think I'm confused, but I'm not sure." Kayvan Novak (Waj)
"[When using 'fake' voices to buy liquid peroxide] I.R.A. voice? Their terrorists Fess! Why d'you wanna do a terrorist voice for? You'll get us nicked!" Nigel Lindsay (Barry)
"But I'll be disguished then, won't I?" Adeel Akhtar (Fessel)
"Yeah, as a terrorist!" Nigel Lindsay (Barry)
"[same scene] So you went into a shop...with your hands on your face, like that, and asked for 12 bottles of bleach? So why has she got her hands on her face, Fess?" Nigel Lindsay (Barry)
"Cos she's got a beard..." Adeel Akhtar (Fessel)
"[Waj's idea of heaven] Rubber dinghy rapids bro." Kayvan Novak (Waj)
Fun Facts
On January 23, 2010, Four Lions had its world premeir at Sundance. On the same day, the UK terror threat level was raised to severe, due to non-specific chatter.

Shakespeare in Love
QUICKIES
"I know something of a woman in a man's profession. Yes, by God, I do know about that."- Judy Dench (Queen Elizabeth)
"The show must...you know..."- Geoffrey Rush (Philip Henslowe)
"[urging him] Go on..."- Joseph Fiennes (William Shakespeare)
"This is not life Will. It's a stolen season."- Gwyneth Paltrow (Viola De Lesseps)
"You see— comedy. Love with a bit of a dog. That's what they want."- Geoffrey Rush (Philip Henslowe)
"I will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all. No... not the artful postures of love, not playful and poetical games of love for the amusement of an evening, but love that... over-throws life. Unbiddable, ungovernable - like a riot in the heart, and nothing to be done, come ruin or rapture. Love - like there has never been in a play."- Gwyneth Paltrow (Viola De Lesseps)
"I have never undressed a man before."- Gwyneth Paltrow (Viola De Lesseps)
"It is strange to me too."- Joseph Fiennes (William Shakespeare)
"Write me well."- Gwyneth Paltrow (Viola De Lesseps)
When Scenes
In the beginning of the movie, when Henslowe asks Will if he has been working on his play, and William Shakespeare answers "Doubt thou the stars are fire, Doubt that the sun doth move" he is quoting from Hamlet (Act II Scene 2). The lines are from a letter he wrote to Ophelia while pretending to have gone mad, and are followed by "Doubt truth to be a liar, but never doubt I love."
About six years before the film was finally made, Julia Roberts was cast as Viola and flew to the UK to try to persuade Daniel Day-Lewis to take the part, but he declined in order to do In the Name of the Father (1993), so Universal Studios dropped the project when no suitable alternative was found. Joseph Fiennes was the only actor ever actually cast in the lead role.
Kate Winslet turned down the role after her 1997 success in Titanic.
Will is shown signing a paper, with six illegible signatures visible. Several versions of Shakespeare's signature exist, all of which are different. This has led to debate about whether William Shakespeare may actually have been illiterate.
Ben Affleck took the part in this film to be near then-girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow.
