Though none of these actors have ever gotten the chance to thank the Academy, Perez Hilton reports that Beyonce, Russell Brand, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Bradley Cooper, Ellen Page, David Duchovny, Téa Leoni and Gerard Butler are nine of the 178 people invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts this year.
Academy President Tom Sherak said, "These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today. Their talent and creativity have entertained moviegoers around the world, and I welcome each of them to our ranks."
Some of these selections seem a bit odd to me. Russell Brand? For what? His outstanding performance in Get Him to the Greek? And while I think Beyonce is fierce, her last film was 2009's Obsessed and she is most noted on IMDB for her performance in Austin Powers: Goldmember -- not exactly what Oscars are made of. In my opinion, the best choices include Jesse Eisenberg, who was very impressive in last year's The Social Network and Mila Kunis, who was excellent in Black Swan.
What do you think of these choices? While I don't know if they're the best picks, I would love to see Brand and Beyonce's votes this year!
