Colin Firth not the first choice for 'The King's Speech'

Just like his character George VI wasn't first in line for the throne, British actor Colin Firth wasn't the first in line for his Golden Globe winning role in The King's Speech. Apparently the director and script writer both looked at Paul Bettany and Hugh Grant for the part.

Director Tom Hooper said to The Telegraph "I wasn’t interested in Hugh doing a light version. It was a blessing, really, because once I started talking to Colin Firth and getting to know him, the rightness of him playing the part was so profound." Yeah, nice save.

While I think Colin Firth was perfect for the role, I'm still rooting for Jesse Eisenberg for the Best Actor Oscar. That boy can spit out some sentences the way Colin Firth simply c-c-c-ann't.
