Leonardo Dicaprio to Play Serial Killer in 'Devil in the White City'

No longer will Leo be playing the victim with a past, step aside Hannibal and that weird clown from Saw 1-200, Dicaprio is going to play a serial killer.

After a long battle with real-life psycho Tom Cruise, Leo has won the rights to Erik Larson's 2003 book Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America.

The former Jack Dawson from Titanic will take on a much darker role as Herman Webster Mudgett whose alias is H. H. Holmes, a serial killer who confessed to murdering 27 people and may have actually murdered up to 200 people during the Chicago World's Fair.

This twisted psychopath buys a hotel he calls "murder castle" where he tortures and kills his victims through such disgusting methods as a gas chamber and dissecting table.

Despite my dislike of horror films, I'm really excited about this one. After Shutter Island and Inception, I'm happy to see that Leo is branching out into a wider range of roles. My dad has read the book and recommended it to me countless times. It's sad that a movie has to come out for me to want to actually read the book (i.e. The Accidental Billionaires and The Social Network and the book of Shutter Island). Apparently the story is about more than just a serial killer. It's also about the architecture behind the World's Fair, which my father claims to be his favorite part of the book. Hopefully those scenes won't get butchered by Hollywood.

There hasn't been a director or release date announced yet.
