New Info and Pictures on Burton's 'Frankenweenie'

So exciting! A Tim Burton movie that's only slightly a remake. Burton originally tried to make this movie in 1984 and was fired by Disney for doing so. Since then, Burton's produced the animated features The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride and Coraline. Now, Disney has taken back their original comments and wants Burton to remake the short he produced many years ago. They originally fired him for wasting their resources on a film that they deemed inappropriate for family viewing. After Burton's other successes, they released a censored version of the original on VHS. The first uncensored short was available on the DVD of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The film is about a boy named Victor whose pet dog Sparky gets hit by a car. Victor brings the dog back to life, but has to convince his parents and neighbors that he's harmless.

“I don’t know, they got freaked out or something, but they still allowed me to make the film,” Burton says. “Even though I was frustrated about the release — or not release of it — it was still a great experience, and did a lot for me, so I couldn’t really complain.” (INTERVIEW WITH ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY)

And he's not complaining. Burton is now set to release the new Frankenweenie on October 5, 2012. The film will be shot entirely in black and white and 3-D. Some of the characters will be voiced by Winona Rider, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short and Martin Lanadu.
