So to follow up on some of The Social Network weekend madness, I found a really cool article on Entertainment Weekly! Apparently the characters of the Winklevoss twins (the brothers who were "Zucked" out of their Harvard Connection site by Mark Zuckerberg) were played by two different actors — Armie Hammer and Josh Pence. As you can see, the two look completely different, but were digitally mastered to look and sound identical. Armie Hammer played each twin in the scenes where only one was dominant. For the scenes where both twins were shown together, Director David Fincher (the artist who put Brad Pitt's face on a baby in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), took Hammer's face and voice and digitally superimposed the images and sounds over Pence.
“For a long time, I held out for this idea that we were going to find two 6’5″ 220-pound scullers who were going to be able to act,” Fincher laughs. “So we looked and we looked and we looked and finally, probably about four weeks out from shooting, I just said, this is crazy. We’re never going to be able to get [it]. We need an actor. We need one person to play two people.”
Could have fooled me.
